NID
The Guide to Civil Society 3rd Edition is here!

The eagerly anticipated Guide to Civil Society third edition was launched on Wednesday, 13 February 2019. The Guide was complied by the Namibia Institute of Democracy (NID) with the support of the Hanns Seidel Foundation (HSF).

The launch of the publication kicked-off with welcoming remarks by Naita Hishoono, the Executive Director of NID.  The purpose of the guide is to provide an overview of the mandate and activities of the civil society organisations to further strengthen civil societies in Namibia in addition to aiding the interaction between civil societies and the government .

It was noted by Ms Marowa, Project Coordinator at NID, that it had been a challenging journey to publish the guide as the publication date had to be shifted three times to accommodate late requests by the members of the civil society that wished to be a part of the guide.

Guest speaker, Graham Hopwood the Executive Director of the Institute for Public Policy Research (IPPR), presented his findings from a recent CSO-survey. Hopwood remarked that “the Guide to Civil Society provides a useful overview of CSOs that are active in Namibia. The guide can be used by researchers and donors to get a sense of what various organisations are contributing to the development of Namibia.”

HSF country representative, Dr Clemens von Dorderer, closed off the event by touching on the importance of the guide “The guide is a living document that needs to be refreshed because civil society organisations come and go.” He also went on to thank NID for a job well done.
