Towards Energy Efficiency in Namibia

The Economic Association of Namibia (EAN) in collaboration with the Hanns Seidel Foundation (HSF) held a breakfast meeting on Energy Self-Sufficiency in Namibia on 3 April 2019 at the Protea, Furstenhof Hotel in Windhoek.

Welcoming remarks were made by Mr Jan Behrens Scheepers, an EAN Board member, who then continued to comment on the dependency on Energy imports which may not be sustainable and its not in the long-term interest of country. He further elaborated Renewable Energy Technology provide unique opportunities for Namibia to invest in the Energy Sector, provide unique opportunities for Namibia to invest in the energy sector and become self-reliant in the provision of energy to domestic Economy.

 The keynote speaker, Honourable Tom Alweendo, the Minister of Mines and Energy, then provided overview of government policy on the subject in his key-note presentation, indicating that the government’s target is that Namibia will be able to supply 80% of domestic power demand from local production by 2022. 

Closing remarks were made by Dr. Clemens von Doderer, the Head of Country Office at the HSF.
